Roguelike 3D Space Shooter Everspace hits Kickstarter
ROCKFISH Games, developers of the critically-acclaimed Galaxy on Fire series, are graduating from the mobile arena and working their gaming magic on the PC starting with Everspace. They may not have the name recognition of many of your favorite studios, but to after having gotten over 30 Million installs on mobile and having a successful Steam Greenlight campaign, it’s pretty safe to say ROCKFISH knows what they’re doing. Add in the jaw-dropping Unreal Engine 4 visuals, and you have a game that I’m definitely looking forward to.
Everspace is a roguelike, so expect to die. Beyond that, there looks to be resource-gathering, crafting, a thorough upgrade system and they’re aiming to implement a deep narrative that gives you more story than you’d get in your standard roguelike while still retaining the gameplay that players expect from the genre. You can use the credits you earned in your last life to upgrade the ship for your next run, and if its anything like previous games I’ve played in the genre, once you launch, your old credits are gone.
Their goals with the Kickstarter campaign is €225,000, which translates to $244,285 USD. Their stretch goals are where the fun happens:
- $350k – Additional languages, more devices & consumables.
- $500k – Two extra player ships and Hardcore Difficulty
- $800k – HOTAS (Hands-On Throttle and Stick), Joystick & Gamepad controls in addition to PlayStation 4 & Xbox One builds.
Considering they have a HOTAS in the Kickstarter video, I get the feeling they may either already have that as a goal or they play a reasonable amount of space flight sims. It’s not like they’re lacking for options lately, so that wouldn’t be too surprising!
If this looks as awesome to you as it does to me, check out the trailer below, then head to the Everspace Kickstarter!
