Out of Left Field: Introducing the Nintendo 2DS
Nintendo is notorious for releasing revisions to its handheld hardware. The Nintendo DS saw new hopes in the DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL models. The Nintendo 3DS made its move to become extra large, and now moves again to the Nintendo 2DS model.
I can’t say I didn’t see this one coming. Parents hear a warning sign about “vision” problems and can’t help but freak out a little bit. And, of course, did we really think Nintendo was going to ride the “3D” title-toting forever?
The Nintendo 2DS can play every past and future game for the 3DS, but the 3-D feature is permanently off. This is probably a good thing for parents who don’t want their young children to utilize the 3-D feature and muck up their eyes.
The 2DS sports a new, non-flip look, as well as a new price: It will be offered at $129.99, $40 less than the Nintendo 3DS and $70 cheaper than the Nintendo 3DS XL. It will ship in North America on October 12, and come in colors red and blue.
