Shigeru Miyamoto Developing ‘New Franchise’ for Nintendo

Speaking with Japanese game magazine, Famitsu, legendary developer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed he is working on a new IP for Nintendo.

Miyamoto is the man behind Nintendo’s decades-long success, bringing in heavy hitters like Mario, The Legend of Zelda and the Pikmin series. So, when he says he is working on something new, people tend to prick up their ears and listen.

“Next Spring, with the release of Mario Kart 8, we’ll have a general selection available, so I’ve been thinking it would be a good time to bring out a new franchise,” Miyamoto said to Famitsu.

When inquired further, Miyamoto said, “I can’t say too much in detail right now, but I’ve been pretty busy with this title these days.”

Nintendo has a tendency to run its franchises rather long, and though fans are surely excited for the upcoming Pikmin 3, it will be refreshing to see something new coming from the house of Mario.
