Tomb Raider’s New Trailer Shows Players How to Survive in Multiplayer Mode

Recently, Eidos-Montreal has revealed that the upcoming re-imagining of Tomb Raider will in fact feature a surprisingly dynamic multiplayer mode.

“It’s something we talked about when creating the initial design for TOMB RAIDER, but it was very important that there weren’t any distractions from our focus on delivering a great single player experience, so we parked the idea of creating multiplayer at Crystal Dynamics and looked to our sister studio, Eidos-Montréal,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics.

Within the game’s multiplayer, the island’s indigenous Scavengers face off against the crew members from the shipwrecked Endurance. In this mode, players will have to work together to face against challenges and learn to survive together rather than alone.

Multiplayer will feature a Far Cry 3-esque emphasis on survival utilizing the environment as well as hunting expertise by laying traps…some of which are featured in Tomb Raider‘s singleplayer mode.

Stephane D’Astous, general manager at Eidos-Montréal added, “It’s been a privilege for the team at Eidos-Montréal to be a part of TOMB RAIDER. We built multiplayer from the ground-up, around the core theme of survival, using some of the key elements of the single player campaign and re-purposing them for a fast and exciting experience.

It’s been an amazing project, one we’re immensely proud of and one which we really think gamers will have a lot of fun with.”

In the fourth episode of Tomb Raider‘s The Final Hours trailer series, Zachary Levi goes behind the scenes to focus entirely upon the game’s multiplayer mode, which is a first-ever addition to a Tomb Raider game.
