Godus is Among Us Thanks to Peter Molyneux and 22cans
It is often said, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” In the case of Peter Molyneux, this old dog has got more creative life in him than his godly creations.
The newest title from the minds at 22cans, the company in which Molyneux left Microsoft Studios to work with, comes a “reinvention” of an early title in his armoire of games.
For those who were still in their britches when Populous was released, the god-game focused on the player controlling all aspects of their created world (click here if you’d like to play Populous and download the original on GOG.com). The game houses simulation at its core, allowing players to take on the role of creator/ruler/all-knowing entity. The game traversed into a realm that was fairly new in the time of the PC. Hell, the PC itself was only starting to peak in popularity.
Now, Molyneux and the team at 22cans is bringing a reimagining of sorts to the game that solidified his career in the industry. Godus brings together the same aspects of “controlling” the world through divine intervention and strategy, while observing the outcomes of your tactics.
As an all-powerful being, players can grow their followers, deliver natural disaster events, or simply watch as the world grows. The game promises to be “…the Ultimate God Game: Single Player, Multiplayer, Cross-Platform gameplay, sandbox worlds, strategic battles, living populations, and the power to create, change, and destroy the very structure of the world.”
Instead of a PC heavy release, the game will also launch via Android, iOS and Mac.
The Kickstarter for the game has already reached its halfway point. There are three more days to back the project. To check out its official Kickstarter page <ahref=”http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/22cans/project-godus/posts”>click here.
