XCOM Delayed Again, Will Hit After Q1 2013
Man, it feels like it has been forever since I wrote my very first impressions of 2K Games’ XCOM. And even though I was intrigued by the shooter reboot of the classic strategy franchise, I wasn’t too sure where developer 2K Marin was going with the game.
In 2011 2K revealed that the game went through a complete rehaul, and it was shown in its newer, more straightforward form at E3 2011. I was hoping that we would see something more solid by the time 2012 rolled around, but unfortunately it looks like all we have is another delay in a series of delays since the game was announced two years ago.
According to Take-Two Interactive’s earnings report, XCOM has been issued a “fiscal year 2014” release date, or somewhere between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. The delay could be quality related, but more realistically, Take-Two is probably keeping it separated from XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which has a solid release date of Oct. 9, 2012. Formally, XCOM was to come out in the same release window.
