SEGA Puts the Hurt on XBLA and PSN with Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

SEGA’s Virtua Fighter has been known to be one of the most technical fighter series ever. Just ask anyone who has tried button mashing through the arcade mode and hear how the game laid them out flat. Usually by Akira. The series is well-respected in Japan as the most-played fighter in the country. The game takes patience, skill and strategy to truly master. To sum it up, this is not for the button mashing crowd.

Virtua Fighter 5 broke new ground for the series when it became the first online capable game when it was ported to the Xbox 360 in 2007. The game is making a comeback, this time on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 via Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network. Titled Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, the game boasts all new enhancements such as more game modes, new dynamic arenas, new characters and a huge collection of customizable character items. The game will hit sometime in summer 2012.

Virtua Fighter 5 has always been an authentic arcade fighter, even when played from the comfort of a home console. And, like any proper arcade dynasty, we have continued to support, expand and tweak the game in the years since its release,” said Haruki Satomi, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “With Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, we get to bring the ultimate expression of competitive one-on-one gaming to console players in one perfect package.”
