Battlefield 3 Breaks Records, Gets Limited Edition
Electronic Arts and DICE are getting bullish in the lead-up to Battlefield 3, and handed down some exciting announcements today.
First, Battlefield 3 has broken EA’s preorder record, clocking in at a massive 10x the preorders of the previous record holder, Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Second, they’ve announced a limited edition of the game, which is available to anyone who preorders the game from a participating retailer. The limited edition contains the Back to Karkand expansion, which contains Battlefield 2 maps that have been lovingly converted to the Frostbite 3 engine. The limited edition itself doesn’t cost anything extra, but Johnny-Come-Latelys can buy the Karkand maps for $14.99 after the fact.
Third, there’s going to be a Battlefield book. It’s being written by Andy McNab, a decorated ex-SAS operator who is acting as a consultant for the Battlefield 3 team. McNab is the author of the bestselling novel Bravo Two Zero.
Think of it as a narrative strategy guide.
