Nintendo3DS Adds Netflix Streaming

It was only a short time ago that Nintendo 3DS owners, including me, were watching the time tick down hour by hour just to update our 3DS with the eShop. Now, we have something else to look forward to. Today, the newest update for the Nintendo 3DS will allow Netflix to be streamed to the handheld. This may also be just another factor in the decision to choose a side in the latest disc vs. streaming plan debate.

“The new Netflix application looks great, plays great and is a fantastic consumer experience,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “It gives Nintendo 3DS owners access to an amazing wealth of movies and TV shows, which they can watch conveniently from thousands of free Wi-Fi access points across the country. Nintendo 3DS truly offers something for everyone.”

It is great to know that we have yet another feature on the console and is making good use of the abilities. One disappointment may be that only 2D movies will be streamed in the meantime, but a group of select movies and shows will be featured down the road for your 3D viewing pleasure. It does seem like this would have been the first step in the consoles Netflix streaming abilities. But what do I know? I’m just a huge Nintendo fan.
