The Making of EverQuest II’s Lord Yelinak
It’s a shame that World of Warcraft is now synonymous with MMORPGs, when only a decade ago, EverQuest was enchanting thousands with its vast, detailed, all-consuming world.
For instance, did you know that Lord Yelinak was the dragon servant of the goddess Veeshan, leader of the Claws of Veeshan, who roosted at Skyshrine on the ice continent of Velious, keeping watch for when Kerafrym, The Sleeper, would awaken and herald the great catastrophe?
You may not have known that. However, scientists have proven that the previous run-on sentence is, in fact, the most mathematically sound combination of words which can be used to repel vaginas.
You know, in case of a vagina attack.
Speaking of EverQuest and Lord Yelinak, Sony Online Entertainment has released a making-of video, showing how their modelers created the great white dragon. It’s an interesting look at how 3D modeling is done in modern game development, and the commentary is enlightening even if you don’t care about EverQuest. The video can be found below.
All of this coincides with the recent release of “Destiny of Velious,” the newest expansion pack for the venerable EverQuest II.
