Duke Nukem Ready to Kick Ass May 3rd
There was a time when talking about a release date for Duke Nukem Forever was done so facetiously; the thought that the game could ever actually see the light of day seemed absurd and rightfully so. It was the game that everyone wanted to play yet gamers told themselves that this was nothing more than wishful thinking. With the closure of 3D Realms, it seemed like everyone was about to be proven right. Duke Nukem Forever? More like Duke Nukem Never.
But like a guardian angel Gearbox swooped in and grabbed the game off the dying studio’s hands and today they announced something that ends all the jokes: the release date.
That’s right, Duke Nukem Forever will hit all major consoles May 3, 2011 and May 6 internationally. Put on your shades, bust out the beer and cigars and slap some pork on the grill, it’s time to celebrate the return of the gaming world’s most macho, ass-kicking hero of all!
“The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here,” declared Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “May 3, 2011 marks Duke’s return as he unleashes his brash and brutally honest wit on the world. His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”
The Duke’s return also marks the return of his Pig Cop rivals and enormous alien bosses who have returned to Earth after their defeat, hell-bent on claiming the world and killing the man who beat them. But this doesn’t worry Duke; he will be equipped with an entire arsenal of over-the-top weapons to kick the squealing alien menace off the planet once-and-for-all. Of course, if he ever leaves the strip bar. The game offers a plethora of different small activities when you want to take a break from the alien genocide such as shooting hoops, read dirty magazines, lift weights, draw crude messages on whiteboards, or, of course, tell one of the many women to “Shake it, baby!”
“When I said goodbye to 3D Realms and the original Duke Nukem 3D team in 1997 and soon after founded Gearbox Software, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that a day like today would come,” said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software. “Today I am proud, humbled and even astounded to announce that the day is coming at last for all gamers to be a part of video game history: Duke Nukem Forever will launch worldwide this May!”
There will be a playable demo released before the game. All players need to do is join the Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club. A membership certificate for the club is included within the Borderlands Game of the Year edition.
