3DS Price and Date Announced
Nintendo of America today held a large press conference to showcase the much anticipated 3DS hand-held unit. On March 27, 2011 for $249.99, folks here in the US can get their hands on the new device. In Europe the device will launch on March 25th for £229.99, however the price will be set by retailers so the price is not a universal figure.
“Nintendo 3DS is a category of one – the experience simply doesn’t exist anywhere else,” Fils-Aime said. “You have to see Nintendo 3DS to believe it. And it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before.” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime at the New York press event. He went on to add that between the launch windows of March and June we will see over 30 titles to launch for the 3DS. The system will launch in 2 colors, Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue.
The Nintendo eShop, which will not be available at launch will be a DSware shop where you can purchase smaller DS titles, GBA and Gamboy Color games. There will be six augmented-reality cards that developers can use to create different kinds of experiences for their titles.
You will also be able to create a 3D Mii on your new 3DS as well. Simply flash a picture of yourself with the built in camera, and transform that picture into a interactive 3D Mii model. Friend codes will be incorporated with each 3DS unit instead of individual games this time around, so you can add friends to your friends list and see what they playing at any given time.
