Hydrothunder:Hurricane-Tempest Pack DLC review
The Tempest Pack is the latest DLC for Vector Unit’s wave slaying racer Hyrdothunder: Hurricane. This addition offers news boats, skins, and the all important maps. There are also a few added achievements for those hunting them down in the open water.
The maps are the most important, right? Tired if hitting Lake Powell? Well, how about Atlantis instead? Those are a whole lot of questions right off the bat, which I’m sure you have some questions of your own. Is this DLC pack really worth it? I can tell you right now, it is.
The new maps offer an extended gameplay aspect and really gives Hydrothunder solid ground. It is disappointing when you get a DLC pack that does not really give the game added value and you are dissatisfied with the extra maps. There is nothing to worry about here.
Atlantis offers some high flying action which is turned around in a heartbeat by diving into an aquarium-like-underwater tunnel that will have you hanging with the fishes. Castle Von Boom is roundabout track making you second guess your direction just from the onslaught of speedboats flying and bombs dropping in your face. It is fast paced and a great time to play.
In the Bermuda Triangle track it is pretty easy to get turned around the first playthrough. Similar to the previous Area 51 map, although you wont be seeing any Blackbirds take off, you will be thrown again into another dimension. If you enjoyed the Area 51 map and the dimension diving, this high sea-wave-skipping will offer some great challenges. The open sea and massive ships give this area a wide open feel and keep the over the top racing in mind.
Although the Tempest Pack offers some great tracks, it does come with some great difficulty. ‘Ring Master’ can become the challenge that you love to hate. Especially on expert mode or in the championships races, it is one race that I’m willing to just take the 1st place Pro trophy. Making your way once again back to the track just trying to calm your boat down and make it through to get some sort of trophy can be frustrating. There is a certain level of difficulty that might steer others clear of this game mode, but it shouldn’t steer you away from the maps themselves.
Over the top racing pitted with challenging maps created a great arena for players to relive and continue to have great memories of Hydrothunder. All of this for just 400 MS points, you can’t go wrong.
