EA Adds Women’s National Teams to FIFA 16

Electronic Arts announced today that the next installment of its worldwide top-selling football series, FIFA 16, will include the Women’s National Teams from twelve different nations.

The national teams included are Germany, USA, France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, China, Italy, and Mexico.

While the ladies won’t make it into every game mode of FIFA 16, as of now they’ve been confirmed for Match Day, Offline Tournaments and Online Friendly Matches. The other caveat is that they’re only available to compete against other Women’s National Teams.

For more of this awesomeness, check out the official announce trailer:

My bid is a week, max, before someone hacks this and demolishes one of the regular teams with a Women’s National Team, and it will be glorious. If you believe otherwise, you are incorrect. With this move, Electronic Arts has made it possible for even more FIFA 16 fans to have a better experience because, simply put, women like football, too!

Sadly, a decent part of the internet has put it’s ignorance on display by attempting to downplay this news. I won’t be posting any of those here, because I think this move is an amazing one on EA’s part. With the world’s population being somewhere around 50% women, this move just means that even more people will be able to take part in the beautiful game in a meaningful way.

Once they’ve added women to the Create-A-Player and GameFace modes, there won’t be anything stopping anyone from enjoying a game of FIFA from the comfort of their own home.

Well played, Electronic Arts. Well played, indeed.
