Valve Reveals Steam Machine
Valve has revealed today that its working on a brand new hardware initiative, and they are calling it “The Steam Machine”. Multiple models of the “Steam Machine” will be made available in 2014 from a few different manufactures, and Valve is also accepting BETA requests from users through it’s website.
“Entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all world,” Valve said. “We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you, so we are working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS.”
The Steam Machine prototype is said to be a “High Performance” machine and will have a heavy focus on the living room space and gaming. The machine will also be upgradable and will be completely open in terms of software development.
“While these products are still in development, we need your help. As always, we believe the best way to ensure that the right products are getting made is to let people try them out and then make changes as we go,” Valve said.
No hardware specifics were given about the new hardware, however Steam users can sign up for the beta through their website and completing their list of STEAM based objectives by October 25th.
