Will Bungie’s ‘Destiny’ Include Microtransactions?
Bungie has given away a hint during its recent Mail Sack posting that Destiny may support microtransactions.
While the company did not reveal the existence of the feature outright, in a response to a question by user “Steampunkmasked,” who asked if the game supported “real-life money” transactions, Bungie said: “What we can tell you right now is that the rewards you will gain by playing Destiny—and playing it well—will be earned.”
As an online shooter/RPG hybrid, Destiny is designed to be a large game, possibly offering hundreds of hours of gameplay. Microtransactions are commonplace within the online RPG genre, but the severity is different from title to title.
Sometimes microtransactions can impeded or hinder a gamer’s progress, forcing them to shell out some petty cash just to be as shiny as the next guy, who is armed with a fire ax+99 and a limitless credit card. It can make things uneven, however, that typically only occurs in games that are free-to-play. Bungie has not mentioned a price for Destiny, but it’s safe to assume it will fall along the expected range.
Destiny will launch later this year on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
