Gearbox Acquires Homeworld Franchise From THQ
Gearbox Software announced that it was the highest bidder for the Homeworld franchise during the recent THQ auction.
Per Gearbox’s website, the company wrote that it put forth all of its effort into acquiring the franchise.
Brian Martel, Gearbox Software’s Chief Creative Officer, has great love and respect for Relic’s brilliant, fun and innovative game and personally spearheaded the acquisition. Brian intends as first priority to direct Gearbox’s interest to preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today’s leading digital platforms.
Gearbox Software is asking fans to visit their Homeworld forum to submit suggestions on the direction for the franchise. Gearbox also asks for those interested in working on the title to mention it on the forum.
As of now, this is just an announcement detailing the purchase of the franchise. With a dedicated team, there could be an quality title in the future.
