Disney Shuts Down LucasArts
According to a Kotaku source, Disney has closed the doors on LucasArts this morning effectively ending production on Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313. About 150 employees were laid off in lieu of the closing
In a statement to Game Informer, Disney confirmed the end of LucasArts:
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” the statement reads.
“As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
The Walt Disney Company acquired LucasFilm and LucasArts last October for $4.05 billion. The game studio was most known for their many well received Star Wars titles, but was also know for games like The Secret of Monkey Island and Grimm Fandango.
Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313 are not expected to be sold off, but rather dissolved completely.
