At GDC 2013, Kojima Productions and Konami debuted Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Kojima Productions, in the past, has shown short teaser trailers for two separate games, called The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero. At the event, Kojima confirmed that both projects have been combined to form MGS V, with Ground Zero acting as the prologue.
It is also confirmed that Metal Gear Solid V will be releasing on PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
“Following the success of METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS, we have extremely high expectations for METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. We hope to expand and revolutionize the METAL GEAR SOLID franchise utilizing the FOX Engine, while providing fans the high-quality and immersive experience they have come to expect from Kojima Productions.” — Tomoyuki Tsuboi, president of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will have connections to Peace Walker, and in some sense Ground Zero, but will follow the fall of Mother Base. The Phantom Pain will also utilize the Kojima Production’s latest graphics engine, called the FOX Engine.
There is no expected release date thus far, but we can expect to hear more about this title at this year’s E3 in June.
