‘Shovel Knight’ Spawns from Former WayForward Employees, Ya Dig?
“Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!”
There are a handful of companies in the gaming industry that know just how to call upon the powers of the 8-bit era. One of those companies, WayForward Technologies, seems to have perfected the 2D side-scroller formula. With such praiseworthy titles as Double Dragon: Neon and BloodRayne: Betrayal, there’s no doubt that we can expect nothing less from the newly formed Yacht Club Games which consists of former members of the WayForward team.
So who exactly is the infamous Shovel Knight? The horned-fighter enlists the power of his ShovelBlade to aid in the journey that lie ahead. The knight sets out to save his “beloved” and defeat evil in the form of the Enchantress.
As you can tell by the trailer, or even title image, the game truly rings true to that classic feel. The music in the trailer showcases classic chip-tune finesse, while the maneuvers seen probably dictate that tough-as-nails difficulty reflective of the era. The difficulty was reiterated in the press release promising a game drawing from such titles as “…Mega Man, Castlevania, or Dark Souls!”
Oh boy, are we in for a tough one.
