Retro City Rampage Hits WiiWare, ROM City Rampage Ensues
We’ve all seen the Grand Theft Auto meets 8-bit retro with Retro City Rampage. The game opens up for a slew of retro gaming references and has infiltrated just about gaming platform under the sun. To make one more platform to jump on that bandwagon, the Nintendo Wii will be getting its long anticipated version of the game later this month. On Feb. 28 the game will launch as Nintendo WiiWare but will also receive a few upgraded features on all platforms.
The WiiWare version of the game will support both the Classic Controller and Wii Remote. Much like that of New Super Mario Bros. , the game will feature shake options to pick up items. This mixes both old school controls with a bit of modernism with the Wii’s capabilities. The game can also be accessed with the Wii U if you’ve taken the time to transfer your data over.
It’s great to see that current-gen consoles are capable of emulating 8-bit graphics. But, would it have been possible back when the Nintendo Entertainment System reigned supreme to create such a game? The answer is: yes. According to creator Brian Provinciano, it would have been possible. The proof is in the pudding as he delivers ROM City Rampage, a tribute to the 8-bit era. The game is running 100 percent of the hardware of the NES.
The retro upgrade will be included with the WiiWare version of the game, be provided in a Steam update for current users, and included in future downloads as it is 50 percent off on Steam. The ROM City Rampage update will become available next week, so grab the game now while it’s on sale. Like, right now. Like, go download it.
