Rumor: Initial Hardware Specs for Next Xbox
Edge is reporting that an unnamed source in Microsoft has revealed some specs for the next Xbox. Some of these speculated functions may raise an eyebrow.
For starters, the next console will require an Internet connection in order to function which, like the PlayStation 4, will rule out the second-hand market for the platform. Of course Xbox LIVE will see a restructure and will be prominent on the console, and an improved Kinect hardware piece will ship alongside.
Rumors have spoken that the next console will also have physical discs along with digital versions of the games, even with the always online function. The next Xbox may be manufactured to run 50 GB-capacity Blu-ray discs.
It is believed that games will be shipped with activation codes, much like PC games of today, and will have no second-hand value beyond the initial owner of the product. The source went on to reveal that previous rumors are accurate regarding hardware specs:
- AMD eight-core x64
- 1.6 GHz CPU
- D3D11.x 800 MHz graphics solution
- 8GB of DDR3 RAM
There is no expected date at this point when Microsoft will make the official announcement, but in the wake of the upcoming Sony event on Feb. 20, we suspect it will not be long from then. Stay tuned to GAMINGtruth.com for further updates on this story.
