This Fan Made Sonic RPG Takes an Old Fool Back to the Old School
I browse Reddit like a crackhead needing a hit. I fiend for things that will damn near bring me to damn near lose my lunch, to intriguing little known facts about the universe. For all of my retro gaming fixes there isn’t a day that /r/gaming doesn’t provide some sort of throwback goodies. Today, it provided SEGA fans with a role-playing game that was both interesting and retro-tastic.
The game, titled Sonic the Lost Souls, has an 8-bit feel to it and the levels shown in the image gallery are modeled after Sonic Adventure on the Sega Dreamcast. The Mystic Ruins station is equipped with a steam engine and the Chao sprites are easily identified. For those looking for the full Sonic experience, Knuckles is a playable character and you may even fight a boss or two.
If you are looking to download the game yourself, then click the link here. The user, CherryVanillaCoke, states the game is “incomplete” but still playable. Even in its current form the game promises “1.5 to maybe 2.5hrs if you don’t rush through it and find all secrets and play all mini games.” The user also admits the lines may be a bit “cheesy” due to his teen dialect at the time of creation.
The title was made with RPG Maker 2003, a role playing game produced by ASCII. Even with it being incomplete, I wanted to stick my VMU in it right away.
