Tiger Woods to Putt Augustus Circa 1930

Right now the closest thing humans have to time travel is re-watching the “Back to the Future” series. That, or you can do the old school thing and read a history book. But who wants to do that, anyways? This is where storytelling and the unique experience of video games comes into play.

Today, EA Sports announced that its tournament style title Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14: The Masters Historic Edition will feature a bit of history. The game will feature the original Augusta National Golf Club course design of 1934. Many won’t ever get the opportunity to travel to Georgia in real life, so a trip to this classic course digitally will have to suffice. The the landmark course is where the first Masters Tournament was ever held, previously titled the “Inaugural Augusta National Invitation Tournament.”

From the very beginning, our relationship with the Masters Tournament has been built around our ability to bring a unique and authentic experience to a new and younger demographic of potential golfers,” Mike Taramykin, Vice President of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR said. “From unprecedented access to the Augusta National archives, to in-depth discussions with golf historians – and even our own internal research into the sport in the 1930s – The Masters Historic Edition is the next step in bringing gamers an exciting and distinctive glimpse into the game of golf.

Planning to nab the Historic Edition? Here is what you can expect from its contents:

  • A complete copy of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14
  • A walk through of the original 1934 layout of Augusta National
  • The present-day Augusta National Golf Club course
  • Augusta National’s world-class Tournament Practice Facility
  • Augusta National’s Par 3 course
  • Green Jacket ceremony
  • Augusta, the Song, as heard during the Masters Tournament television broadcast

The course was designed by architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie and golfer Bobby Jones. The speed and feel have also been reworked to encompass the feel of the era. The Historic Edition will retail for $69.99, and the standard release for $59.99.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is slated to release March 26, 2013 in North America and March 28, 2013 worldwide.
