Fire Emblem Awakening Brings Customization and Map Content with New Anouncement

The most recent news from Nintendo revealed more about the highly anticipated role-playing game, Fire Emblem Awakening.

The news comes months after the Nintendo Direct Feed segment which introduced details in the storyline and characters. In this latest announcement, Nintendo highlights its plans to reveal map content, SpotPass and StreetPass functions in the game.

The map functions of Awakening will introduce additional content for purchase through Outrealm Gate that can be found within the in-game map. Easy access to this content is not limited to the maps. Purchasing the map content also provides an opportunity to grab “new class types, skills, playable characters, maps with new storylines and special maps that let players earn more experience points, gold or other rare items.”

There are no details behind the pricing for these map packs other than that they will be available for varying price ranges. Presumably something similar to what New Super Mario. Bros 2 did with the Coin Rush challenge packs.

Don’t think that this will be your only opportunity to pick up Fire Emblem Awakening content. The SpotPass feature will also distribute free content with this feature. Players will still have the chance to grab add-ons to the storyline, new characters and
additional items.

If it is StreetPass that you want, fear not. Meeting up with some friends or grouping together will provide a similarly rewarding experience. You will be able to create team names and custom emblems so that others can see your creation on the map. Teams of 10 can battle it out just as the “random” battles in the game generate. Handling any group of contenders shows off “renown” which is won after each battle. It is also possible to recruit other leaders with gold or beat them to win them for free.

While this might get you antsy-in-the-pantsy prior to release, a demo is also on its way to the Nintendo eShop. The demo for Fire Emblem Awakening will be available Jan. 17. The game launches on Feb. 4 on both digital and physical retail platforms. Both stores will offer it for a price of $39.99.
