Street Fighter X Mega Man is Real and is Hadouken-ing to PC This Month

At first glance you might think this game is some flash made internet fan production. Alas, the mysterious shroud of secrecy has been lifted and the Mega Man game fans may or may not have wanted is here. Well, almost. Fans still have a little over a week for the game to make its way to PC on Dec. 17.

“Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation,” said Christian Svensson, SVP of Consumer Software at Capcom USA. “This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.”

The game isn’t some Capcom anomaly. The release is in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Street Fighter and Mega Man franchises, which many immediately associate with the success of the company here in the US.The mashup brings together the little blaster man along with some familiar faces from the Street Fighter series in pure 8-bit form.

The game will also feature eight new weapons, presumably unlocked after beatin’ those brawlers, and will launch for free. The production and development of the game was a fan and Capcom co-op effort. From music to gameplay, the game looks to tip its hat to all those who’ve enjoyed the characters over the years.

This isn’t quite a new Mega Man title, but many are still optimistic. Here is what Brett Elston, Community Manager for Capcom Unity, had to say on the Capcom Unity Blog in regards to a future title:

“As for more MM25 news… stay tuned. I’ve been running those meetings all year and we have stuff to share that day and through 2013. We know it’s been a hard year for Mega Man fans, but I hope this proves our love and intent to the series, and that we have not heard the last of the little guy.”
