From Booze Runner to Spy: Tom Hardy to Join Splinter Cell Movie Cast
Today, Ubisoft and New Regency announced their partnership in the Splinter Cell movie is getting more than just a +1. The actor Tom Hardy (“Lawless”) and screenwriter Eric Warren Singer (“The International”) will now be included in the creative process for the Ubisoft film.
“We could not be happier to be teaming up with our friends at Ubisoft Motion Pictures on yet another truly iconic title. With a movie star like Tom Hardy in place and a gifted writer such as Eric Warren Singer penning the screenplay, we know the fans will not be let down,” said New Regency CEO and President, Brad Weston.
“With actor Tom Hardy attached and screenwriter Eric Warren Singer to write the script, Ubisoft Motion Pictures will lead the development with the support of New Regency to bring the franchise to the big screen in a dynamic way,” said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “For Ubisoft Motion Pictures, creative control is key and New Regency shares our commitment to respecting the creative freedom of our team. Their ability to produce both blockbusters and intriguing indie hits is an ideal fit for the Splinter Cell franchise.”
It was only a few days ago that I watched “Lawless” for the first time. The movie tells of a group of brothers amidst early 1900s prohibition. The gang gets into a blaze of heat while running alcohol in their small town. The group fights to stay alive during the smothering suppression of alcohol sales, and the rest is literally history.
One of the stand out actors in the film–No, Shia Labeouf didn’t steal the spotlight–was Tom hardy. The stone-hearted portrayal of the Bondurant brother was one thing that kept me interested in the movie. There was no length that he was willing to go to protect his family, and his flagship ego. Now, the actor will hopefully bring that same brutality to Splinter Cell.
