Star Wars: The Old Republic Goes Free-to-Play

BioWare’s massively popular MMO set in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars: The Old Republic, now has a brand new Free-to-Play option. Gamers can now experience the critically acclaimed online action and the game’s story arcs for all eight classes and level up all the way to level 50 for free.

“We want to give our players the freedom to enjoy Star Wars: The Old Republic when and how they want,” said Matthew Bromberg, General Manager of BioWare Austin. “There has never been a better time to start playing with us.”

Along with the new Free-to-Play option, BioWare also released Game Update 1.5:HK-51 Activated, adding new areas, a new Companion character and more:

  • HK-51, the galaxy’s most dreaded assassin – Beneath the frozen surface of Belsavis lies a sunken derelict ship that’s ripe for the picking, allowing players to embark on a new mission to unlock a ruthless new ally: the Assassin Droid HK-51.
  • Section X, a brand-new area on the prison world of Belsavis – Players embark on a mission to thwart the servants of the Dread Masters who are looking for a powerful ancient weapon, but you must get their first and get it before they do.
  • Journey to Denova and embark on Operation: Explosive Conflict (now with a Nightmare Mode) – Players who complete this brand new mode can earn the final pieces of the Dread Guard gear as well as a new powerful mount.
