Your Gamerscore Will Finally Offer Something Other Than Bragging Rights

Well if it isn’t about damn time.

Today, Microsoft unveiled MyAchievements, a reward system designed to offer discounts and gifts for you Xbox LIVE Gold members and your mad achievement hunting.

MyAchievements will offer rewards for your score after placing it in one of three different categories:

  • Contender: 3,000-9,000G
  • Champion: 10,000-24,999G
  • Legend: 25,000+G

The Contender category will offer the owner a “special gift” (confirmed to be worth $1 or less) on their birthday month. Breaching the big 10K will reward gamers with that gift as well as a 1 percent discount on monthly Xbox LIVE purchases. Hitting Legendary status at 25,000+G will net gamers the gift plus a 2 percent discount. According to the Q&A page for MyAchievements, the refund will drop into your account on the 15th of the following month.

MyAchievements has been something that gamers have been waiting to see for a long time. For about about seven years Microsoft has been sitting on its duff on what to do with achievements, and now we are finally getting rewards. Of course, we weren’t entitled for anything for finding every secret dossier or shooting trees or putting silly party masks on zombies, but it sure is nice to get something for it, other than disappointed looks from friends and family.

The small percent discounts don’t exactly blow me away, and the once-a-year party gift is shrugworthy, but, as I said, it’s not too bad.
