Yoshinori Kitase Talks of Crystals and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
It is a great thing when a story can be told for generations. In the case of Final Fantasy, the franchise reached a milestone as it celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. This franchise and achievement was just cause for adoration by many fans that were present, but another gem was showcased at the PAX Prime fan-mitzvah.
In the official reveal, Square-Enix informed us that Lightning’s story will continue to be told. Due out next year, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will offer a new storyline, characters, and gameplay system. There is not much else known at the moment other than the game is underway into the production process and that Lightning will be the main playable character.
The news comes straight out of a PAX Prime 2012 announcement made to the attendees of the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary celebration at the ACT Theatre. You can find our original announcement of the event here.
