Sam Goes Stealthy Again in Splinter Cell: Blacklist – Alternative Ghost-Play Walkthrough
A couple weeks back Ubisoft released the Splinter Cell: Blacklist walkthrough video first shown at E3 2012.
I posted about it, and if you read it you would recall that my take on Mr. Fisher’s rooty-tooty-point-and-shooty adventure showed that the trailer didn’t exactly set my underoos ablaze with excitement. Quite the opposite.
In fact, looking back at the article now, I may have been a little bitter about the whole thing.
Still, I felt my points to be valid enough to bitch about. And I don’t think I was the only one who felt that way.
In response, Ubisoft has released another walkthrough featuring the same level, but this time Sam is moving through the area with stealth in mind. After watching the video, I feel a little relieved that at least the option to not kill everything in sight exists. However, it’s obvious after watching both videos that the game is still leaning more toward the more violent approach (no stealth melee animations?).
I hope that calling it “alternative” doesn’t translate to: “Yeah you can play it this way too, we guess.” I have a feeling it won’t, and that the stealth option will still be supported (albeit weakly if this video is a demonstration of what we will experience). Moving through the shadows is fun, dodging dog noses and scurrying along convenient cliff paths seems lazy. The enjoyment from stealth comes from the satisfaction of moving through the area with the subtle silence of an ant fart; it’s more than nabbing some 15-point achievement.
Who know what the end result will be like? This video demos pre-alpha footage, so we may see some big changes before the game releases early next year.
What do you think?
