Dead Island Riptide Details Available Now, Pre-Orders Get Limited Edition Steelbook
The sequel to Deep Silver and Techland’s Dead Island, titled Dead Island Riptide, is on course to a 2013 release date.
The game takes place right after the final scenes of Dead Island. After taking on hordes of undead, the survivors finally found a place to feel safe and cozy. And they got to go home. Actually, no, wait, they didn’t. Because that would make for a boring-ass sequel.
Instead, our dear heroes are flung back into the open arms of zombies, who no doubt missed their delicious friends.
A new character is joining the team, and is bringing some all new skills into the fray. The game will also include “hub defense missions,” where the team must hunker down, set traps, fences and turrets to fend off waves of zombies. This actually sounds fairly similar to Gears of War 3‘s horde mode, in which an established base must be defended to the last man.
Deep Silver also revealed that Riptide will include new communication features in co-op, which will “allow players to enjoy an even more intense and strategic team experience.” No other details are provided to support that, so I guess it stays vague for now.
Also revealed today is the limited Steelbook edition of Dead Island Riptide, exclusive to those who pre-order the game through GameStop, Amazon and Best Buy. The Steelbook is pictured below:
Dead Island Riptide will be available next year for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
