The Sims 3 Supernatural Hands-on Impressions

I have very little experience with the Sims franchise. With that said, I was glued to The Sims: 3 Supernatural at this year’s EA Summer Showcase.

After being introduced to the world of Sims and given the rundown of the basic controls, I was left to explore Moonlight Falls with a family featuring each of the supernatural player types. Players will be able to create werewolves, fairies, witches and vampires.

Most of my hands-on experience were with the werewolves, witches and fairies.

As a werewolf, you are able to transform back and forth between human and werewolf form on a whim. EA Sims’ development team made a terrific decision to use the classic Universal Studios version of the werewolf. The werewolf walks around on two feet, runs on all four, they have a slight hunch, and walks around with a stalking attitude.

My werewolf Sim did experience both bathroom and hunger urges. Even in werewolf form, the character went to the bathroom like a human even with sensor blur that Sims players are accustomed to. For lunch I decided to go with tofu, an ironic choice. The animation of the werewolf eating is everything I expected to see. He lifted the plate to his mouth and just went at it; he put the plate down and ripped his food apart shoving it into his face. The cherry on top, when done the werewolf took his dish to the sink and washed it. I even took my werewolf to the college and got a job as a professor. I next played with the witches and fairies.

The witches and fairies can cast curse and charms respectively. The fairies charms are associated with mischievous tricks. I conducted a “hot head” charm in which the charms victim’s face engorged and steam started blowing out the ears. Other charms include turning yourself small to interact with objects around you. I decided to actually ride a toy train set.

As a witch, I was experimenting with her charms and accidently set the house on fire. The fire brought all the Sims together in a panic to try to extinguish it. The witch automatically found the fire extinguisher and took out the fire. After this I decided to practice my charms outside, only to set the playground on fire.

I was impressed with the presentation and gameplay of The Sims 3 Supernatural. I found it quite addicting and I know I only scrtatched the surface of Supernatural and the Sims universe. The Sims 3 Supernatural is an expansion pack to The Sims 3, so make you own the game before picking up it up this September.

If you pre-order you will receive exclusive content from Popcap’s Planets vs. Zombies. When I asked about a possible crossover with the other expansion, Seasons, I was told that anything is possible in the Sims universe.
