Two Days in, the Super Mario Marathon is Still Going Strong, Earning Over $60,000 for Child’s Play

The premise behind the Super Mario Marathon is simple: get a group of gamers together and play 25 years worth of Mario games while receiving donations for Child’s Play, an organization that helps kids in 70 hospitals by donating toys and games.
This year, the Mario Marathon is in its fifth running, and though it still has a ways to meet last year’s amount of $112,675, and so far things look promising. You see, for a certain dollar amount earned a level is unlocked. Throughout the 10 Mario titles gathered, that’s a total of 800 levels.
At the time of this writing the team has earned $63,000, which means that 718 levels have been unlocked, which also means that there is guaranteed play up until World 7 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. However, they are still on World 6 of Super Mario Bros. 3, so there is still a long way to go before reaching the end of their quest. I wonder how much they will earn by then?
The marathon is watchable either below or via SMM team’s website which uses TwitchTV. You go over right now and watch them tackle the rest of Mario 3 and beyond, as well as donate to the cause. Donators will get their names up on the wall, as well as get the satisfaction that their cash will go to a sick kid in need.
