Nintendo Wii U design allows Free To Play games
“Free to Play” gaming is becoming a hit on the PC, with tons of titles being free from the start, and using micro-transations to supplement costs for developing. Nintendo is aware of the phenomenon, and in an Q&A Session that was released today with Satoru Iwata confirms that the Wii U is capable of handling this.
Iwata does mention however that Nintendo has no plans to develop “Free to Play” games themselves, but that may change in the future.
I feel that Free to Play games aren’t really suited for consoles, since the retail level is so important to their success. However, if a financially stable company were to expirement with it, I think it could be a big transition for the gaming industry.
