Mashfest 5 Summary
On June 3 in NYC, Midtown Comics hosted Mashfest 5, an Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament, at the downtown Village Pourhouse. Approximately 60 players from all over the city participated in the double-elimination tourney. The crowd was much younger that I expected, and several of the participants I spoke to had been involved in the fighting game community for less than 2 years. A few even mentioned that they’ve never played Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Think about that for a second, and try not to feel old.
After 6 hours of ridiculous combos and special moves, veteran FC NYChris G came out victorious over the young guns, beating out runner-up EMP Dragongod in the grand finals with four matches to one and got to go home with a fancy new Eightarc joystick.
