SEGA and Double Fine Team Up for The Cave
SEGA announced earlier today that they have teamed up with Double Fine Productions and Ron Gilbert, designer behind Maniac Mansion and DeathSpank, to deliver The Cave, an adventure game SEGA promises will be “odd and compelling.”
In perhaps no relation to Plato’s short story, The Cave allows players to spelunk and climb to their heart’s content in dark, puzzling caves using a team of three adventurers, each with a unique set of skills. The gameplay trailer is available, so check it out.
From SEGA’s announcement page:
“As SEGA continues to expand our digital gaming catalog, we’ve put a lot of effort into finding truly original experiences we can help bring to life. Both Ron and the team at Double Fine are experienced and deeply creative, and we value the chance to work with them on The Cave,” said Haruki Satomi, senior vice president of Digital Business at SEGA.
“The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game,” Ron Gilbert said. “I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at SEGA believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.”
The Cave will hit consoles and the PC in early 2013.
