S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Gets Cancelled
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans I come bringing some dark news. Developer GSC Game World announced today that the company and the upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 have been shut down. The company offered an explanation at the studio’s Facebook page.
The reason we cannot continue with the development of Stalker 2 is we and our new investors we unable to come to an agreement with the IP rights onwer. The entire team that was working on Stalker is now working on a new project called Survarium. We are so grateful for the support over the years and despite our best efforts we have to move on from Stalker which is as hard for us as it is for you. However, we feel that our new studio and project will be something unique and fill the void left by Stalker as well as add a lot more! -Your Stalker Team-
The company noted that the problem wasn’t a lack of funding, as the studio was able to find new investors. The problem was that GSC couldn’t secure the IP property of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise.
The team behind GSC have moved on to become Ukraine based Vostok Games. The new studio is in the middle of developing Survarium, a free-to-play MMO that shares a similar post-apocalyptic theme as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
