BioWare Lead Writer Leaves after 12 Years
For years it has been known that BioWare has crafted some of the best story-driven games in the industry. One of those top writers, Drew Karpyshyn, just got back from partying it up in Las Vegas, after officially retiring from the company.
According to his blog, Karpyshyn has decided to quit after devoting 12 years of his life helping to craft the stories behind some of BioWare’s biggest titles. It was at BioWare where he first earned a role as lead editor, penning the story behind the multi-award winning Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Other game storylines he contributed to include Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic (as senior editor).
“I’m proud of everything we accomplished, and I know going forward that BioWare will continue to live up to its well deserved reputation for making the best story driven games in the industry,” he said.
Karpyshyn also wrote several novels based in the Mass Effect universe, and is currently writing the next novel for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
He wrote that the decision was “completely amicable” and 100 percent his decision. He said that he “enjoyed [his] time at BioWare immensely, but it’s time for [him] to move on.”
I’m sure BioWare fans will miss his presence dearly, but it sounds as if this was the best choice for him to make. I’ll step forward and and represent that group of fans (being one myself) by saying, best of luck to you, good sir. Perhaps we may meet again in some form of media or another.
Now how the hell am I going to get rid of all these shirts?
