Upcoming Tribes: Ascend Update Brings New Customization, New UI
Hi-Rez Studios announced that Tribes: Ascend, currently still in Beta, is getting an update that increases the level of class customization while updated the user interface.
“We feel very good about the fast and fluid combat we’ve been playing and refining with the community over the past few months,” explains Todd Harris, Hi-Rez Studios Chief Operating Officer. “We are now excited to announce new features that have been among those most requested by our Beta group.”
Hi-Rez plans on decreasing the amount of playable classes from 12 to 9, but will allow players to update their current classes with new unlockable weaponry. The game starts off with three of the nine classes already unlocked, which includes a light, medium and heavy class.
“We believe this system preserves class-based combat while also offering additional flexibility for players to customize classes around individual play style. It continues to provide a balanced and level playing field for all players.”
I’ve had my time with the Tribes: Ascend Beta and so far I’m pretty impressed. I used to tear up the online gaming landscape in Starsiege: Tribes, and Ascend feels like a faithful homage to that game–which many gamers have named one of the best online shooters ever made.
