A Game of Thrones RPG In Development

George R.R. Martin’s landmark fantasy epic A Song of Ice and Fire has previously been adapted into a real-time strategy title for the PC, but now role-playing enthusiasts and fans of the series can rejoice as the fantasy world of Westeros comes alive like never before as an open-world RPG.

This announcement is great news for fans who felt jilted by the RTS Genesis title, and with the upcoming release of the RPG adaptation gamers can explore a fully fleshed world from the harsh wintry northlands to the scorching dunes of Dorne. Another exciting prospect is being able to interact with the myriad of characters from the series, from diabolically clever dwarves like Tyrion Lannister to devious spiders, vicious packs of dire wolves, snarling golden lions and even a few flayed men.

On the heel’s of the HBO original series Game of Thrones, Martin’s medieval world has become a promising gaming franchise that could expand onto a whole anthology of releases…maybe even a game for every book. Let’s just hope that Cyanide doesn’t collapse from the weight of expectations from the millions of fans of the series–especially when Genesis was so poorly received.

A Game of Thrones is slated for release around April 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. For more information please visit the game’s official website.
