GamePro Closes Shop

It hasn’t been easy for gaming magazines for many years now, thanks to Internet dominance. Several video game mags, such as EGM and NextGen, have shut down for good. Today, longtime magazine GamePro joins them.

In July of this year the magazine shifted to a quarterly subscription, but GamePro parent company International Data Group confirmed to Industry Gamers that there just wasn’t enough revenue coming from advertisements. The head of IDG’s Consumer and Small Business media group, Mike Kisseberth, said GamePro Media is “refocusing its US business exclusively on its growing custom publishing and solutions business.” Which basically means the company will focus on creating custom content for vendors.

IDG hasn’t released the number of people who will be affect by the close, but the hearts of the staff at GAMINGtruth go out to those laid off and their families.
