Zeboyd Games to Develop Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 3

Zeboyd Games is well-known for their two critically-acclaimed top-rated Xbox Live indie RPG’s Breath of Death VII: The Beginning and the fan favorite Cthulhu Saves the World–both of which have been met with success and cross-platform releases on both Xbox 360 and PC–but now the XNA development team tackles a new challenge: The Penny Arcade Adventures.

The Penny Arcade titles, lamented the humorous On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episodic Adventures, are a series of role-playing games within the vein of classic J-RPGs such as the early Final Fantasy releases for NES/SNES. This is a perfect fit for Zeboyd as they have heavy experience in the genre with their previously released XBLIG titles BoD VII and CStW.

Hothead Games was slated to develop the third iteration in the Precipice of Darkness series, however they canceled and Zeboyd was contacted to fill the void with their epic game development skills. Little news has been revealed about the game and no screens have been released so far.

Gabe and Tycho have been confirmed as playable characters in On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode III, and the game will feature the same classic 16-bit style graphics that Zeboyd’s Xbox Indie RPGs utilize. The third episode will be released sometime in 2012.

This marks a quite monumental occasion for Zeboyd as they are now developing a release in a popular series, which will most likely be available on the Xbox Live Arcade marketplace. This is a leap from the $1-3 purchases on the Xbox Indies Marketplace and gives the XNA dev team a chance to move on to a wider audience.

Be sure to stay tuned to Zeboyd’s official website and Penny Arcade’s official website for more information.
