Final Fantasy Tactics is Here to Wreck Your iPhone
There’s so much technology that exists today which I would have killed for 13 years ago. The idea that a good portion of the human population carries around sexy little phones that will play games and order burritos is nothing short of astonishing.
The fact that one of the best games of all time is finally available on one of those phones is also pretty neat.
That’s right, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions is now available for the iPhone, clocking in at around 500mb and pricing out at $15.99.
Granted, that’s more expensive than you’re probably used to paying for a cell phone game. As proof that it’s worth it, I submit this humble PlayStation memory card, containing a FFT save with an elapsed play time of 160 hours. 10 cents per hour isn’t half bad.
Of course, this is the oft-delayed port of the PSP remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, meaning that the dialogue is slightly more sensical than the original, and there are some nifty extras. Naturally, the interface has been overhauled for touch control.
One major caveat is that the game is optimized for newer hardware, namely the iPhone 4 and the 4th generation iPod Touch. It will run on the iPhone 3GS and the third generation Touch, but be prepared for some slowdown. If you own anything older than that, you’re fresh out of luck.
An iPad version of the game is scheduled to release sometime this fall.
