Pre-Order Halo:Combat Evolved Anniversary, Get Exploding Grunts, Chief Suit

Easily one of my favorite things to do back when I played Halo 3 and Halo: Reach was to gather some friends and play some games with the Grunt Birthday Skull on. I couldn’t help but to laugh as Grunts panicked and scattered every time one of their friend’s head exploded in a shower of colorful confetti while people yelled “yayyy!”

Those who pre-order Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will gain another way to torture the small, clumsy cannon fodder: The Grunt Funeral Skull. When this skull is turned on Grunts will explode in a bright blue fireball, igniting all other Grunts around it. Imagining the beautiful chaos already brings a smile to my face.

Besides the inevitably fun Skull, players will also receive a set of MJOLNIR Armor for their Avatar.

From the release:

  • Master Chief Avatar Armor – Heroes never die, and to honor the 10th Anniversary of John 117, you will finally be able to transform your Xbox LIVE Avatar into the iconic hero by outfitting it with Master Chief’s signature MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor.
  • “Grunt Funeral” Skull – An exclusive, game-modifying skull that changes the rules of the game for an explosively humorous experience, “Grunt Funeral” sends “Halo’s” most lowly and lovable enemy out in a blaze of glory. And plasma. And then more glory. Once the skull has been activated, every grunt’s methane tank will explode like a plasma grenade when killed. Watch out for the grunt chain reaction!
  • Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary developer 343 Industries will also be hosting a Halo Universe Panel at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. The panel will take place Friday, July 22 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the San Diego Convention Center, Room 6BCF. The panel will be hosted by Frank O’Connor, Kevin Grace, and others from 343i plus special guests Greg Bear and Karen Traviss. The panel will discuss the first decade of Halo and discuss the future of the franchise.
