Age of Empires Online Obliterates Your Productivity on August 16

Free-to-play games have been seeking a foothold in the U.S. for several years now, but they haven’t caught on as well as they have in Asia. Maybe Age of Empires Online will change that.

Joystiq reports that Microsoft’s venerable strategy game will launch its freemium title on August 16th of this year.

The game will be playable from, with plenty of free content and plenty of ways to pay for more content. For example, the Greeks and Egyptians are playable from the start, but you can buy additional civilizations.

I’ll be biding my time until this release by working on my screenplay. In it, a young man buys an enchanted copy of Age of Empires, where the battles he wins or loses change the course of history. It’s a laugh riot, but he learns about the importance of history‚Ķ and love.
