Square Enix to Bring Dead Island Westward

Today Deep Silver and Square Enix, Inc. announced Square Enix, famous for the Final Fantasy franchise and crying fans, will be footing the bill to bring the hotly-anticipated Dead Island to the Americas for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows-based PC gamers.

“Square Enix’s impressive distribution and marketing capabilities, combined with their proven success with launching top-notch AAA titles, makes them the absolute best partner for Dead Island,” said Deep Silver Chief Operating Officer Geoff Mulligan. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with their dedicated and talented team and look forward to collaborating with them in order to bring Dead Island to gamers.”

Dead Island is a first-person action game with a focus on melee combat. Oh, and there are a lot of zombies to kill. Play through a story where a small group of non-flesh eaters fight to survive on an island covered in the undead. Go figure. Expect to find the usual clichè zombie apocalypse situations such as limited ammo, hard-to-find firepower and scarce resources. Plus I’m sure there will be a mall in there too. Or maybe a Banana Republic. Hey, if Chuck Greene could walk into any clothing store and MacGyver a weapon of mass zombie genocide out of a left shoe, a coat hanger and a used Klodike Bar wrapper, there’s no reason these fresh bags of zombie bait can’t do it either.

Dead Island is a truly extraordinary title and we couldn’t be more excited about leveraging our unified Square Enix resources in bringing it to audiences in the Americas.” said Mike Fischer, president and chief executive officer, Square Enix, Inc. Dead Island will be released for Xbox 360, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC later this year.

The game will be fully co-op online for up to four players.
