SEGA Announces Sonic Generations

When a new power rips a hole in time sending Sonic and his allies into the past, modern day Sonic and classic Sonic must join forces and defeat this new enemy across familiar stages from three of the most popular classic Sonic titles.

Sonic Generations is a game celebrating 20 years of Sonic the Hedgehog. The stages are complete HD recreations of classic Sonic levels, easily recognizable to longtime fans.

Both modern Sonic and classic Sonic will be playable and both will have their trademark special moves. The Spin Dash and Spin Attack for classic Sonic and Homing Attack and Sonic Boost (from Sonic Colors) for modern Sonic.

“Sonic Generations will certainly be a fitting celebration for Sonic’s 20th Anniversary,” commented David Corless, Global Brand Director for Sonic. “By having the classic 1991 Sonic that many fans know and love team up with his modern day incarnation, we are bringing back the nostalgia of the early days of Sonic and combining it with the innovation and stunning HD technology of the modern gaming era. Sonic Generations will bring to life the last twenty years of Sonic’s universe in a truly unique and imaginative way.”

So far, Sonic Generations is sounding great. As an old Sonic fan, the thought of playing through beautiful, high-speed HD recreations of some of my favorite Sonic levels as the classic, round Sonic sounds like a fanboy dream come true.

Look for Sonic Generations to hit stores Holiday 2011.
