Weekly Round-Up: Monkeys in Balls and the Cold War
The Monkey Ball series remains one of my favorites. Back in the good ol’ GameCube days my friends and I couldn’t get enough of the brutal single player levels and multiplayer fun of Monkey Target. The Nintendo 3DS game won’t return us to those carefree days during high school, but hey, it’s monkeys. In balls. In 3D!
Toy Soldiers is a damn fun first-person/third-person shooter, tower defense style game set in a less popular World War I video game setting. It seems that Signal Studios decided to skip the second World War and pull a Black Ops with sequel Toy Soldiers: Cold War. I don’t really care where Signal Studios takes us, because no matter what I’ll be there shooting down diorama-sized soldiers, tanks and whatever else they send at me across the miniature battlefield.
Kinect has set a Guinness world record!
Cam warns that these two videos of slick video game graphics may cause eyes to bleed. You’ve been warned.
Microsoft working on Xbox 720.
“Plantronics made the efforts to produce a nicely fitted set of headphones. They are comfortable, easy to use, and the sound quality is great. Although they might not allow for the loudest of sound, hooking them up to the right device can make use of volume control. The battery life for two AAA batteries was surprising. The range was limited, but also hindered by the space and amount of electronic devices emitting signals in my direct vicinity. Music, movies, and the all important video games were greatly showcased. The MSRP of $99.99 might drive competition to choose familiar gaming brands like Turtle Beach. Great sound quality truly shines on games that provide great sound production, but the X95′s showcase their stability.”
Deus Ex: Human Revolution releases in August.
PixelJunk Shooter 2
“PixelJunk Shooter 2 is a solid sequel and a lot of fun. The game could have turned out better if the team kept the balance intact, but the addictive and rewarding gameplay easily makes this one of the better downloadable titles money can buy on the PlayStation Network. For $10, PixelJunk Shooter 2 has great gameplay which will keep you happy and occupied for quite a while. If the multiplayer floats your boat, then you don’t have many reasons not to be happy with PixelJunk Shooter 2.”
de blob 2
“De blob 2 is a fantastic game for kids and families looking to have a casual fun time over the weekend. Mechanically there are some flaws, but for children that can find the enjoyment from this game, those flaws are unnoticeable. To the casual fans there could be some deal breakers, but overall the game is a work of art. It’s fun, visually stunning, and musically it is genius. Now I see why they were so quick to get the soundtrack up for sale. There may be points that could frustrate you, especially if you die and have to start half the level over again, but for fans of platformers and casual games, this is a must buy.”
