Hydrophobia kicked off its newest contest to mark the discount price of the episodic adventure on Xbox LIVE. The game was originally released during Microsoft’s “Game Feast” event. January 31st marked the point reduction of Hydrophobia down to 400 MS Points. Purchasing this game during the Xbox LIVE “Deal of the Week” promotion will automatically enter you into the contest for a chance to win a water themed vacation for two.
While this might seem like a great deal on the surface, the other five runner-ups will receive 4,000 MS points each. Is anyone else out there scratching their heads over this one?
Let’s step back and take a look at this for a moment. The game has been reduced down to 400 MS points, which equals to U.S. $5.00. Now, I don’t know about you, but I did play the first episode in this release and even a five-spot might still be pricing this game a little too high. Feel free to download and check out the game for yourself by clicking here. You can also find the GAMINGtruth review here.
It does seem a little backwards. A water themed vacation for two? Slap 1,000 MS points in my hand and I would gladly give my vacation to the next curious Carl who wants to expend the points to play it.
While I am in no way affiliated with this contest, I am however intrigued by the scratch that is involved with it. Charge $5.00, put it on a deal of the week, but more people purchase it for its “raffle” value? If that was the case, why not just do another gamer theme entry contest? There seems like a marketing ploy>gamer effort going on here.
Here is what the Grand Prize Winners can expect as stated from the official contest page:
“Grand Prize Package: Dream Vacation Getaway
A US grand prize winner will be awarded a tropical cruise for two (awarded as a $4500 USD travel allowance and travel agent assistance).
A UK grand prize winner will be awarded a beach vacation for two (awarded as a $4500 USD travel allowance, travel agent assistance and IRS tax provision)”
Like I had previously stated, if you would like to check the game out for yourself, by all means, do so. You never know, you might win 4,000 MS points. Oh yeah, or a water vacation. If you already purchased the game, tough noogies. It’s now discounted and no contest for you.
